No one can deny the role of internet and social media in Egypt in this days especially role of Twitter because it’s actually a reflection of society although The fight between social media users and the authorities has raised some alarming concerns about censorship as well as highlighting the power of social media.
Only 27 million Egyptians have access to the internet, according to the latest official numbers, out of a population of nearly 83 million. there are around 130,000 Egyptian Twitter users.
At the time of the January 25 Revolution, the social network in Egypt was dominated by pro-revolution users. This year, tweets became one of the most important sources of news in Egypt, as well a tool for coordinating activism and protest.
After revolution Egyptian realize the role of twitter compare with other social media sites, especially Protesters,Famous protesters has realized that twitter is the best, for exmple Nawara Negm, Nawara one of the famous protester in Egypt.
SMTFY social media together for you
In Ahram Online’s special report, Ahram asked the most famous Egyptian Twitter users about whether Twitter is a different realm separate from the real world, and what the role of Twitter and social media will be in 2012, especially after the increase in anti-revolution Twitter users, one of them Nawara Negm.
Nawara Negm : @ Nawara Negm
234,850 followers 65,569 TWEETS 1,096 FOLLOWING.
A prominent figure in the revolution, an activist, television personality and journalist.
Negm used to have Twitter accounts: “@ Nawaranegm”, and make revolution aganist Facebook
One of Negm’s most recent tweets was on January 22, 2012:I want my country free, I will not accept any comprises.
Nawara asked by Ahram
Is Twitter a closed realm?
Not at all. Twitter is actually a reflection of society; after all, those Twitter users are humans who represent society and interact with humans in the end.
It is not isolated, and the proof of that is how the pro- SCAF [Supreme Council of the Armed Forces], pro-Mubarak supporters and those following the security apparatus joined social media networks like Twitter and Facebook to interact with the public.
What will Twitter be like in 2012, especially with the increase of the anti-revolution Twitter users?
Any change in social media reflect the changes in the society itself… thus whatever happens in 2012…in Egypt politically and socially will be reflected through the Twitter users. Already in 2011 there was a noticeable increase in use of social media by security apparatuses and their electronic departments [cyber security agents] which follow the legacy of the infamous electronic committee of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and its methods of spreading lies and attacking activists and revolution supporters online.
Now, according to SMTFY Researches in Twitter in Egypt is only a medium of communication that activists or people who are on Twitter choose to use to discuss whatever is happening in the real world. I think Twitter reflects whatever topics are being discussed at any given moment.
Now why users of Facebook become changing to twitter Although changing slow in Egyptian culture
Facebook is limited to your friends and family, you both mutually agree to be friends. You can not see anyone’s content that doesn’t agree to share theirs with you. This may suit the secret ones amongst you but you try asking a question on both platforms and see which results win. Twitter is a search king.
Twitter is simple which makes it fast, responsive and better for mobile. By limiting characters and content Twitter is to the point and loads very easily on a smart phone. This, I believe, is key to its mobile use and indeed the best thing about Twitter. It’s live and responsive.
On Facebook you update your status with words, on Twitter you share ‘Keywords’. Confused? Well it’s simple. Twitter is searchable by not only twitter users but by search engines like Google. Not only can someone on Twitter search follow and converse with you about ‘Smoothies’ or ‘Blueray discs’ when you simply type the word into your tweet, your content is search-able by Google spiders too. Endless possibilities when your content is on the super highway for all to find.
On Facebook you friend request people you have already met. On twitter you follow people you have met, haven’t met, don’t know, will know, may meet, must meet. Networking is massive on Twitter, and a great way to meet new people, businesses and events.
Twitter is a learning organization .
On Twitter the Hashtag technology means you can link your tweet to others in one place. On Facebook they annoyingly bunch together all the tweets with #SMTFY #Englishlovers into a simple box on your timeline, making them an effort to read and again it’s closed to you and your friends so no where near as powerful.
On Twitter you can make your timeline whatever you want into be. Follow accounts that only tweet about social media and your feed is entirely about social media tips tricks and info. On Facebook you get your cousins and your friend.
Twitter is a cocktail party with an open invitation. Facebook is an invite only VIP pass restricted bar. Want to stick with the same people your whole life? Stay on Facebook. Want to broaden your horizons in business and pleasure? You know what to do.
When you check Facebook it’s often the same people, doing the same things and generally not much has happened since you last checked. When you check Twitter so much has happened in the last hour you can not see how you will ever catch up. And if that bloke tweets about his cat again you can just unfollow him, follow someone more interesting, twitter is really massage in demand and change your twitter feed to how you want it.
I have probably met more new people through twitter than I have Facebook friends. Plus, in my experience, I actually [share five LS learn, laugh, life, love and live social]™ and see people on twitter more.
Nawara one of the bravest women in this planet.be brave
